Hi Peeps! I know I’ve been away for a while and taken a rather long break from blogging. But I am back now and eager to dive right into it. One of the reasons I was away was the usual -laziness ! Hahaha. Well not entirely. Life happened and I got quite busy with work and travel aside from reading a bunch of my favorite blogs and obsessing over instagram and twitter – I needed a digital break. But now I’m raring to go and I hope you will enjoy reading my blog. So I wanted to ask……
Have you ever felt overwhelmed by social media? The stress of managing and maintaining all your different accounts and being active with your updates? I really don’t know how people who work or study full time manage their twitter, facebook, instagram, pinterest and blog in some cases. I am in total awe of them for their dedication and they are amazing at what they do and seem to balance all of it.
Then we have those who misuse social media to stay away. Those who are too busy to say please and thank you. To wish someone happy birthday. Instead, its easier to just facebook or text them. I know we have all been guilty of that at some point in time or another. There is no need for human contact anymore when social media has made it possible for us to be as unsocial as possible. Instead of leveraging social media to benefit and enrich our lives, we often use it to bully others. Someone recently said to me that if one doesn’t have a facebook account, one doesn’t exist. I found that to be rather extremist although somewhat sadly true.
With so much importance attached to social media, I decided that I will willingly schedule a digital detox every few months so that I don’t get overwhelmed by it. Also over the next few months I’m going to try to do something different, unheard of in recent times- write an actual letter, put pen to paper and send it out to a friend or family member. Maybe I will send out a postcard when I travel. I always enjoyed receiving letters and cards from friends and family when I was younger so I want to bring that back well baby steps anyway.
So tell me what are your thoughts on social media?
